01 - Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat.
02 - Spread softened butter evenly on one side of each bread slice.
03 - Place two bread slices, buttered side down, onto the heated skillet.
04 - Arrange two slices of cheese atop each bread slice in the skillet.
05 - In a separate small skillet, melt a small amount of butter. Crack the eggs into the skillet and cook to your preference. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
06 - Once cheese begins to melt, gently place a cooked egg on top of each cheese-covered bread slice.
07 - Place the remaining bread slices on top, buttered side facing up.
08 - Carefully flip each sandwich and cook until both sides are golden brown and the cheese has melted, approximately 2 to 3 minutes per side.
09 - Remove sandwiches from the pan, allow to rest for one minute, then slice and serve immediately.
